Cheerleaders flash like gangbangers
I was at the Pac-10 women’s basketball tournament down in San Jose this weekend and noticed the Arizona State cheerleaders flashing a gang sign during their routines.
No, I’m not kidding. The cheerleaders all make this sign where they pinch together their thumbs and ring fingers while their other three fingers are extended. It’s called, “the Pitchfork,” and it’s an ASU tradition.
It’s also a gang sign.
I was sitting next to Dylan Hernandez of the Merc and asked him, “Since when do cheerleaders flash gang signs?” He promptly googled it (what did we do before Google?) and found this page. It is an explanation of cheerleader signs. Now check out this page, a glossary of gang signs. They aren’t just similar - some are exactly the same!
And here’s a history of cheerleader signs. The practice apparently started at Texas A&M in 1930.
The upshot is these are white chicks making gang signs!
But it gets better. The Arizona State gangbangers may not be close to the most offensive cheerleader sign. That would be the Wichita State Shockers which actually use the Shocker as their handsign. If you don’t know, the Shocker is known as, “two in the pink, one in the stink,” and is an alleged double-penetration sex act performed with the hand. You extend your index and middle fingers together, tuck your ring finger and extend your pinkie. For further explanation, ask your local middle schooler.

Actually, I was always pro-monkey bars. And I am also pro-white girls flashing gang signs. Speaking of people who are against fun, did you hear that Arizona State canned the cheer squad because some of the girls posed for photos in their underwear that were posted on The Dirty.com?
