The Bankruptcy bastards
Thursday, March 29th, 2007When I filed for bankruptcy, I applied for a waiver of the filing fee (something like $299). The books tell you that it is almost never granted but you should apply for it anyway.
Why isn’t it granted? That’s kind of interesting. I made about $20,000 last year and figure I should qualify. But sure enough, the first mailing I got from the bankruptcy court, just a couple of days after I filed, was an objection from my trustee to waiving my filing fee. You have to file all your expenses with the court and she just went over that form and said I have too much disposable income. Yup, I’m just rolling in the dough.
A day later, I got my official notification for the meeting of creditors - it’ll be in a month. I get to meet my trustee then and she’ll ask me questions under oath. That is supposed to be the only court-like appearance I will need to make.
I’ll post more as events warrant.
